WRITE, right?
When was the
last time you wrote? Huh? When you were in High school? Why did they even ask
us to write essays or made us expand ideas? Well, you have lots of thoughts every day, right? And some of them are good. However, you aren’t able to
remember all of them. That’s when writing them down becomes necessary.
HOW OFTEN ARE WE THINKING?
Except for schools,
colleges, or at work, how often do you think? You are just sunk deep in your
phone replying to the messages, checking the feed, watching stories and
statuses and, binging movies and web series, or sleeping for more than required.
Well, you aren’t READING, you aren’t THINKING and you aren’t WRITING! And, you expect growth; or a
raise at your job; or success in your life? How Ironic!
WHY SHOULD I WRITE?
“Just try it
yourself: write a short essay (1-2 pages) about any of these following topics
in a way that a stranger could understand:
-
Who
am I?
-
What
do I believe?
-
What’s
most important for me?
-
What’s
my political view and why?
-
What’s
my opinion on black lives matter, trump, gender, religion, nutrition, work
ethic, dogs, hipsters....... and why is that my opinion?
You’ll realize
very quickly that even if you thought you knew your opinion, you’ll struggle to
put it into any cohesive form.
It’s because
we don’t think in full sentences and even less so in full arguments when we’re
inside our heads. Oftentimes we just adopt our opinions based on what people
around us believe or whatever headline we had read most recently. We never go
through the hassle of explaining ourselves.
Writing
forces this. (Especially if you are showing it to others) You wouldn’t dare put
out half-finished sentences or making your case without a strong argument for
it.” – Finn Thormeier. (My German friend)
HOW TO TURN WHAT YOU JUST READ INTO
REALITY
1.
Start writing a diary.
It’s the simplest. It is nothing but writing down how your day was and,
what you did all day. It’s simple, it’s easy and it makes you realize if you
actually did something the whole day or you just wasted it. It’s a great thing
to keep your track.
2.
Write
short stories.
Make them as per your likes. Mashup all genres if you want. They are your stories so you decide.
FOR EXAMPLE, A person named Ron Roy wrote 26 short stories picturing three kids
and named the book series as ‘A to Z mysteries’ (26 alphabets, 26 stories).
Writing stories is easy and exciting. You can even make yourself the
hero! Anything goes! It’s completely your choice.
3.
Write
a poem / a song.
If you are good at rhyming (which most everyone is) then create a poem. Again! Anything you like! Make it romantic,
funny, filled with suspense, or any other way you want.
4.
Write a blog.
This is
about “creating” information. You can write about anything. You can write about
sports, politics, education, cultures, or your passion or anything you are willing to.
AN IDEA (UP FOR GRABS)
So if you
are passionate about something then grab someone who’s passionate about that
thing as well. (See I already told you in my previous blog that UNKNOWKINGLY
you become like people you surround yourselves with). Read about something that
is new in your passionate field, write your thoughts down on it and share it
with your friend (who’s also passionate about it).
This way you learn, you think and, you write……. and, also, you teach!
